Contract / Agreement

Tim Hortons Middle East to set up headquarters in Riyadh

Tim Hortons, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the regional headquarters of Tim Hortons (Middle East) in Riyadh. Founded in 1964, Tim Hortons is the leading coffee chain in Canada and has over 4,900 locations globally. Tim Hortons Middle East entered the GCC in 2011 and has since become the leading Tim Hortons franchise outside of North America. Tim Hortons Middle East currently operates 148 stores across the GCC and is leading an aggressive expansion of its footprint across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman in addition to India and Egypt. Tim Hortons, a leader in four categories -- coffee, baked items, breakfast, and lunch -- is already on an expansion course with 42 coffee shops to be opened across Saudi Arabia this year. The President of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), Fahd Al-Rasheed, signed the MoU on behalf of RCRC and Niraj Tikchandani, a member of the Board of Directors, on behalf of Tim Hortons. Speaking on this occasion, Tekchandani; said: “For Tim Hortons, Saudi Arabia has been and will continue to be a key part of our Middle East story, and we see our regional headquarter at King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh as the perfect hub from where we intend to manage and expand into the broader MENA region and subcontinent.” “We are very excited about the transformation and the innovation that we have seen here and know that there’s a lot more still to come,” said Huda Al-Lawati, also a non-executive director at Tim Hortons. “By basing ourselves in Riyadh, we strengthen our ties to this vibrant, young city. Saudi Arabia is well suited to our growth ambitions, and we are honored to play our part in developing the local economy,” she added. The move to base the regional headquarters of Tim Hortons in Riyadh is significant, noting that that the RCRC has plans to make Riyadh one of the top 10 vibrant cosmopolitan cities of the world. The kingdom has already announced an SR3 trillion ($800 billion) plan to double the size of Riyadh in a decade and transform the city into an economic, social, and cultural hub for the region, a statement said. The RCRC, established by a royal decree in August 2019, is a government-owned and operated apex agency responsible for urban, economic, social and cultural development of Riyadh. The RCRC has also the mandate to supervise the strategic plans, policies, programs and implementation of development projects in the Saudi capital city. – TradeArabia News Service

Opening at The Avenues - Phase 2

TIM HORTONS CELEBRATES OPENING OF FIRST RESTAURANT IN KUWAIT

OAKVILLE, ON - August 26, 2013 - Tim Hortons officially opened its first restaurant in Kuwait on Saturday, marking the company's 32nd location in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Canadian Minister of International Trade, the Honourable Ed Fast, served the restaurant's first cup of coffee, after shooting a ceremonial puck onsite at The Avenues Mall in Kuwait City. The expansion is part of the company's international strategic plan announced in 2011, to open 120 restaurants in the GCC by the end of 2015. "Together with our partner in the GCC, the Apparel Group, we are thrilled to celebrate the opening of the first Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop in Kuwait," said David Clanachan, Chief Operating Officer, Tim Hortons. "We have been warmly welcomed by our guests in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman and look forward to bringing the Tim Hortons experience to our guests in Kuwait City." Since opening the initial five UAE locations in December 2011, Tim Hortons continues to focus on growth in that region's key cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The first official Tim Hortons drive-thru location is slated to open in Abu Dhabi this fall and more such opportunities are being explored. The company also entered Oman with two locations in 2012. In February 2011, Tim Hortons signed a Master License Agreement (MLA) with The Apparel Group, to open 120 multi-format restaurants in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman in a five-year period. "We are fortunate to have found as strong a partner as The Apparel Group to help us expand internationally within the GCC," said Clanachan. "With their excellent reputation, knowledge of local real estate and impressive portfolio of global retail brands, we are confident our presence in that market will continue to flourish." About Tim Hortons Inc. Tim Hortons is one of the largest publicly-traded restaurant chains in North America based on market capitalization, and the largest in Canada. Operating in the quick service segment of the restaurant industry, Tim Hortons appeals to a broad range of consumer tastes, with a menu that includes premium coffee, espresso-based hot and cold specialty drinks (including lattes, cappuccinos and espresso shots), specialty teas and fruit smoothies, fresh baked goods including our trademark donuts, grilled Panini and classic sandwiches, wraps, soups, prepared foods and other food products. As of June 30th, 2013, Tim Hortons had 4,304 system-wide restaurants, including 3,468 in Canada, 807 in the United States and 29 in the Gulf Cooperation Council. TIM HORTONS OPENS IN SECOND MIDDLE EAST MARKET

OAKVILLE, ON (November 12, 2012) - Tim Hortons today announced it has opened its first restaurant in the Sultanate of Oman, making it the second market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to welcome the brand. The opening marked the 20th Tim Hortons restaurant in the GCC since the company signed a Master License Agreement (MLA) with the Apparel Group last year. The MLA with Apparel Group includes up to 120 multi-format restaurants over a five-year period in the GCC within the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. There are currently 19 Tim Hortons restaurants in the UAE, with the first Oman location now open at the Muscat Grand Mall. "We're thrilled that the Apparel Group has reached the milestone of 20 restaurants in the GCC, since opening the first location in Dubai in September of 2011," said David Roy, Managing Director, International Operations, Tim Hortons. "With each restaurant, we are able to reach new customers in different communities and countries. We have a unique offering for the Oman market and look forward to bringing the Tim Hortons experience to guests in Oman." Part of Tim Hortons' four-year strategic plan, that was unveiled in 2010, continues to emphasize the importance of exploring international opportunities and growing the brand outside of North America with a targeted approach. The company will continue to focus on expansion in existing GCC markets, focusing next on Qatar. "As one of North America's largest restaurant chains and a well-respected brand, Tim Hortons works well for those who are looking for a food offering that blends quality service with value pricing," said Nilesh Ved, Chairman and CEO, Apparel Group. "Since opening its first restaurant on Sheikh Zayed Road last year, the brand has experienced encouraging and consistent customer traffic. Taking into consideration the popularity of the brand in the UAE, the next obvious destination was the neighbouring country of Oman, as we continue our search for additional sites across the GCC." Apparel Group is a global fashion and lifestyle brand based out of Dubai and operates more than 50 leading brands in 14 countries. Tim Hortons is joined by names such as Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, Aldo, Aeropostale, Nine West and Cold Stone Creamery in the impressive list of Apparel Group brands. ABOUT TIM HORTONS INC.
