Followup On Vigonovo the Italian Restaurant

Back in August a new Italian restaurant opened up called Vigonovo and I wrote about it on the blog a couple of days after their opening. I didn’t mention anything about the food back then since they had just opened but now that I’ve been there a bunch of times I can say Vigonovo has become one of my favorite restaurants in Kuwait. The food first of all is really great, its Italian but its light with simple ingredients so you never leave in a food coma no matter how much you eat. The menu is always changing and the portions are tapas sized which means you get to eat more than one dish (my average is 3 dishes). But, my favorite thing about Vigonovo has to be the chef, Marco. Its become a habit for me and my friends now to just go there and have him whip up whatever he wants for us. Since the cooking is homestyle it just feels natural to let Marco tell us what we are having that night, as if we’re visiting his home. And I don’t think we are the only people who do that, I think most of his regulars let him just decide what they’re having, it’s more fun. Speaking of his regulars, I didn’t realize we had such a large Italian community until I started going to Vigonovo. Every time I’m there at least two or three other tables are filled with Italians. I don’t really have anything negative to say about the place, I think the lights could be dimmer in the evening and I find the blue walls weird (when you see it you’ll understand) and thats about it. Oh and their instagram account is private which I’ve told Marco I find annoying because it means I need to follow them to find out about new dishes. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian restaurant in Kuwait then this is it. The place is located in Salmiya next to Gia. They’re right next door to Lorenzo in the shop called “Rose Gathering” (they’ll be changing the sign soon). Vigonovo is currently open daily from 5PM onwards except on Fridays when they close. Definitely worth checking out. Here is their location on [Google Maps] and their instagram account is @vigonovo_kw

New Restaurant: Vigonovo Italian Homestyle Food

igonovo is a new small Italian restaurant that just opened up a couple of days back in Salmiya. The restaurant is run by an Italian chef called Marco and I passed by yesterday to check it out. Vigonovo is the name of a town in Northern Italy where Marco comes from so he infuses the characteristic and flavors of his province into his dishes. The menu is fairly small consisting of 3 salads, 4 first mains, 3 second mains and a few desserts. Only a few of the items are permanently on the menu while the rest change all the time. Every morning Marco heads to the local market to see what produce is available and based on his findings, he creates a menu for the day. I like that. A lot. vig2 You could check out yesterdays menu (and prices) since I took a picture of it [Here]. I went with the Cupcake Lasagna, the Pumpkin Tortelli with Smoked Ricotta, the Frico & Polenta and finally the Amaretto for dessert. The portions are all fairly small, similar to tapas so you could mix and match. I hadn’t had this much carbs in months but everything sounded too tempting not to try. Since the place literally just opened it wouldn’t be fair for me to review the food but I did pass Marco and feedback I had. I will say this though, everything was light and the presentation was fantastic. It isn’t a fancy Italian restaurant, it’s a casual homey place with freshly prepared homestyle Italian food. We don’t have anything like it here. Vigonovo is located in Salmiya where Gia is located in Al Khaled Complex. They’re right next door to Lorenzo in the shop called “Rose Gathering” since the restaurant is actually called “Vigonovo by Rose Gathering”. Vigonovo is currently open daily from 5PM onwards except on Fridays when they close. Definitely worth checking out. Lorenzo opening in Al Khalid Complex

Yesterday I posted about Al Khalid Complex and how cool a place it would be if all these trendy restaurants opened there. Well one commentator mentioned Lorenzo was opening there so I went back to the original picture I took and zoomed in to see if I could confirm it and there it was, a Lorenzo Opening Soon hoarding which you can see below. Nice!

Al Khalid Complex is a hidden gem

Ever since I was a kid I always called this place Salmiya Plaza. Back in the 80s that’s where My Toy was located and that’s where the pastry shop we used to pass by to pick up finger food for birthdays and other events was located. Today the place is still there but clearly looks like it isn’t being taken care of. I think that’s a shame since I believe this place has a lot of potential. The plaza has a small parking right in front of it. You park your car and then walk up a few steps up onto a long shaded open corridor that separates the parking from the courtyard. It’s pretty nice since once you sit in the court yard you can’t see the cars. Around the courtyard in an L shaped layout lies all the shops. Each and every one of those shops overlook the spacious courtyard. Other than the parking spots in front of the plaza there is a huge lot behind the plaza where there is a wedding hall. Imagine if this plaza was refurbished and trendy restaurants opened up over there. Imagine if Slider Station, Burger Hub, Zero, Pink Moon and Prime & Toast where actually all open there instead of their current location in the very tight Seef strip. I think it would have been a pretty cool place which is why I think this little plaza located off of Baghdad Street in Salmiya is a hidden gem. Update: Here is a link to the location on Google Maps [Link]
