DQ Announces Plans for Expansion in Kuwait

The Dairy Queen system, part of Berkshire Hathaway, announced plans to expand the brand’s presence in the Middle East with a multiunit development deal for DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and DQ Treat stores. Durra Khaled For Foodstuffs Co., a subsidiary of KMGC, signed a long-term franchise agreement with the Dairy Queen system and plans to develop more than 20 DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and DQ Treat stores throughout the country of Kuwait over the next five years. DQ Grill & Chill restaurants are planned to open by mid-2015 featuring signature burgers, chicken sandwiches, and a variety of salads and sandwiches along with the full menu of DQ treats. The menu will mirror other countries in the region. تم اعادة افتتاح ستاربكس مارينا مول من جديد مساء أمس بحلته الجديدة بعد توقف لفترة وجيزة لتجهيزات الديكور والاثاث، اتذكر ان هذا الفرع بالتحديد كان من اهم افرع ستاربكس في الكويت الى حين دخول الافرع فيزالمناطق السكنية ومن ثم المجمعات التجارية مثل الافنيوز … التصميم الجديد جدا رائع

محل ليكلاند في المارينا مول متخصص بمستلزمات الطهي والخبز المحل له فروع بأنحاء العالم وفيه اشياء وايد حلوة ومحبي الطهي بيستانسون عليه لأنه عنده فناتق تشوق وحتى طريقة العرض والترتيب مغريه يعني ما تقدرين تدخلين وما تطلعين بجيس 🙂

Sneak Peek: Decathlon Sports Shop

I passed by Marina Mall tonight since I had read they were opening tonight. But when I got there I noticed the shutters were still down but the lights were on inside and I spotted some employees. So I made a few phone calls and managed to get a tour around the store and take some pictures. First off, the place is HUGE. I was expecting it to be big but not this big. It’s like a giant supermarket filled with sporting goods. The store is located in Marina Mall where Virgin and a bunch of other smaller shops used to be right across from Cinnabon and The Athletes Foot. Decathlon is a French brand and most of their stores have 18 different sections but the one in Kuwait will be missing two, climbing and hunting. The other 16 sections in the store are the following (taken from their website): – Camping – Running – Cycling – Fitness, Dance, Martial Arts – Swimming – Surf Sports – Boating – Diving – Teamsports – Racket Sports – Horse Riding – Walking – Golf – Roller, Skate, Scooter – Fishing – Target Sports I really loved the place and can’t wait to go back once they open which will hopefully be tomorrow night (Tuesday). They were supposed to open up tonight but due to a technically difficulty they’re now aiming to open by noon tomorrow. If anyone is looking for a watch with a heart rate monitor I spotted an affordable one there for KD12.5.

Virgin Megastore pulls Kuwait operations, store to close end-Feb

International music retailer Virgin Megastore has announced plans to suspend its operations in Kuwait just weeks after supplier Music Master pulled out of the country due to censorship of albums and artwork. The world’s largest entertainment chain is due to close its store in Kuwait’s Marina Mall by the end of this month, and will rush to sell the remaining stock through a clearance sale to end on the store’s final day. Virgin declined to comment on whether the move was related to censorship issues, but sources say the firm has been mulling the scale of its retail operations in the Gulf state for some time. According to reports, almost 60 percent of products sold at Virgin Megastore are banned in Kuwait, with the Ministry of Information forbidding CDs by artists such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Eminem due to their controversial lyrics. “Virgin Megastore is saddened to leave Kuwait. We thank our loyal customers for their relentless support over the years,” said Nisreen Shocair, President of Virgin Megastore MENA. “This has been a difficult decision, but it is one that will allow us to better manage our resources and focus on growing the markets that support the Virgin Megastore business model.” Last month, record distributor Music Master said it was also pulling out of the cash-rich Gulf state as it was struggling to maintain profit margins. It said the restrictions on what music could be sold had put downward pressure on sales and made it difficult to justify doing business there. “There is too much censorship to justify having a full-scale operation there,” Saeed El Ajou, managing director of the Dubai-based company, told Arabian Business. “It is basically lyrics and artwork and anything that is seen as provocative won’t go through. Anything which has any provocative lyrics or any innuendo,” said El Ajou. The country’s restrictions eclipse those enforced even by conservative Saudi Arabia, he said. “It is purely Kuwait-specific, everywhere else we are very fortunate that there are no censorship issues. Even Saudi has been liberal in what they allow through. “Kuwaiti people are very forward-thinking so it is unfortunate.” Kuwait, along with most Gulf states, has been battling to modernise its society and at the same time maintain conservative traditions. In 2008, music shops were closed, and in 2009, politicians called for music education to be banned. A number of singers have also been prevented from performing in Kuwait, including Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram who was refused permission to hold a concert in 2005. Egyptian singer Tamer Hosni’s show in 2008 ended abruptly when a fan jumped up on stage and kissed him.
